Staff, thank you for nominating so many deserving candidates for first trimester’s Treasure Award employee recognition. It was very difficult for the NKN School District Employee Recognition Committee to select only two employees. Neah-Kah-Nie School District has so many outstanding employees, it is exciting to recognize two stellar employees who exemplify the intent of the Treasure Awards employee recognition program. The employee recognition committee is very excited to announce the Treasure Award recipients for first trimester:
Karla Watkins has worked for the Neah-Kah-Nie School District since 1997. Karla is currently the Neah-Kah-Nie Middle School custodian. If you have ever visited NKN Middle School, you have appreciated Karla’s work. The school is very clean and well maintained. Karla not only cleans the building, she enhances school culture with her positive attitude with students and staff, her radiant smile, and strong work ethic.
Principal Lawyer wrote this about Karla in his nomination letter:
I am nominating Karla Watkins for a NKN School District Treasure Award due to her true diligence and professionalism as our head custodian at the middle school.
The facility is always spotless as staff and students enter each day. She works tirelessly during the day to maintain cleanliness, and assists teachers in cleaning up daily messes with a huge smile on her face.
Karla embodies a model NKN School District treasure.
Shari Scholerman began her career at Neah-Kah-Nie in 2001. Currently, Shari is an instructional assistant at Nehalem Elementary. Shari is always actively engaging students at their academic level with a compassionate and calm manner. Shari’s passion for her job transcends to the students she works with.
Jill Schneider, wrote this about her colleague Shari Scholerman:
I have worked with Shari for many years. Over the last 4 years, we have worked with some of the same students at different times of the day. Shari is kind and generous to all of the students that she encounters, not only those she is assigned to work with. She manages to require those students she is assigned to work with to build on concepts and learn at their own rate. She is quick to modify classroom work so our student can participate in activities at their own level. In years passed we have had little time to discuss our shared students; but Shari always takes a moment to pass on information from the morning that could help in the afternoon. We also make time to discuss our students before and after school. This year we are actually in the same classroom for one block of time. It has been enlightening to see how Shari handles difficult situations. She is able to lead a group of students of various ages and abilities in the same activity and keep it fun and interesting for the group.
Shari is always upbeat and she is very professional. She can always be counted on. She is aware of the need for confidentiality, and is always circumspect. She is a leader in our building and a great role model for both students and staff.
Karla and Shari will be recognized for the Treasure Award at student assemblies in December. They will receive plaques and gift certificates. Karla and Shari will also be recognized on the school district website.
Two employees will be recognized each trimester. Staff, students, and community members may nominate Neah-Kah-Nie School District staff for a Treasure Award.
