Oregon School Boards Association (OSBA) Convention
I had the honor of attending the OSBA Convention November 13-14 in Portland with the NKN School Board. NKN School Board: Terry Kelly, Chair; Pat Ryan, Vice Chair, and fellow board members Lisa Hooley, Eugene Tish, JoDee Riderbusch, Trisha Hixon, and Carol Mahoney participated in the annual conference. Conference attendance and other professional development opportunities are essential elements of school governance. School board members and I attended a variety of workshops including: Employee Health Matters in Oregon Schools, Assessment Literacy: Oregon’s Purpose, Value and Plans, AVID and Common Core: A Match Made in Heaven, Every Day on Time: Improving Student Attendance Through an Attendance Audit, and many other workshops geared towards better understanding the needs of NKN students and staff. Lisa, JoDee, Trisha, and Carol also participated in the Leadership Institute Workshop on Thursday, November 12. This was an excellent opportunity for NKN board members to meet other board members from across Oregon to share and learn from each other. NKN has a very committed school board actively engaged in performing their very important role.
