Neah-Kah-Nie School District Staff, Students, and Community,
Congratulations to Nehalem Elementary’s “Queen of Media” Kathy Kammerer and Neah-Kah-Nie High School custodian extraordinaire John Wheeler for being selected as Treasure Award recipients, for first trimester. Kathy and John were nominated by very appreciative staff members and selected by the Neah-Kah-Nie School District’s Employee Recognition Committee.
Kathy and John are recognized for their contribution to one or more of the following Neah-Kah-Nie School District values:
- Excellence in education-Preparing student for the future
- Progressive professional practice
- Learning that requires rigor, relevance, responsibility, and relationships
- Building positive community partnerships
- Being responsible, respectful, and safe
- Building a positive school and district climate
- Celebrating the school district’s diversity
- Open collaborative communication
- Fiscal responsibility and prioritization
What would Nehalem Elementary be like without Kathy Kammerer? Well, it would be a boring place to work. Kathy gets students excited about school the moment she welcomes them with her open arms and warm heart. Kathy is the employee who always finds time to stop and talk with a student. If a student wants a book by an obscure author, Kathy will find the book. If you have a problem with your computer, you go to Kathy. Kathy is “Ms. Flexible” with her time. Kathy is loved by students and her colleagues.
If you have never seen John work on a construction project, clean the hallway, or prep the cafeteria, you are missing something. John moves faster than Superman and puts Mr. Clean to shame. John is an inspiration for our outstanding custodial staff and a great example for students, congratulations John!
Staff, students, and community members are encouraged to nominate exceptional Neah-Kah-Nie School District employees to the school district’s Employee Recognition Committee. The committee then selects two Treasure Award recipients.
Here is what staff wrote about Kathy and John:
”Kathy does the job that used to be a licensed librarian and assistant! She is always friendly and cheerful. She works tirelessly, well over her clocked hours. Kathy is dedicated to the children, school and library.”
“John has a great work ethic, he whistles while he works, has a smile and a greeting every morning and does an amazing job keeping our school safe, well maintained and visually appealing. John receives incessant requests which he tries to resolve immediately, many times he drops what he is currently doing to serve others then returns to his project without a complaint. He does a great job saving the district money by repairing and replacing things on his own. He often comes up with out of the box solutions to problems and frequently uses his great sense of humor to minimize things that might otherwise become problems. I appreciate his attitude and his high standards.”
Kathy and John will receive a $25 gift certificate to Manzanita Fresh Foods. The Neah-Kah-Nie School District Employee Recognition Committee will present a Treasure Award plaque to Kathy and John at student assemblies.
Attached to this letter is additional information on how to nominate an employee for a Treasure Award.
Congratulations Kathy and John! You are true Neah-Kah-Nie School District TREASURES!
Paul Erlebach, Superintendent and Neah-Kah-Nie School District Employee Recognition Committee member
