Neah-Kah-Nie School District Parents and Students,

The school district is in the process of installing an access control system for exterior doors at all NKN
schools and the district office. The project’s estimated cost is $225,000. The project began in December
and will be completed by the end of the school year. Once the project is completed, access to specific
doors by staff will be with a fob (small electronic device) or a key card. Parents and visitors will activate
an intercom to gain entrance at the main door during school hours.

Currently, staff at Neah-Kah-Nie Middle School use a card or fob to enter the school. Access for parents
and volunteers will be through an intercom system; however, the intercom system has not been
installed. Until the intercom installation, middle school parents will need to be let in by the school
secretary. The main door at the middle school will be open for parents at the beginning and end of the
school day. Thank you for your patience until the project is completed.

Each school will transition from key entry and open access to the access control system depending on
project completion.

This new access control system is another way Neah-Kah-Nie School District is enhancing security for
students and staff. The Neah-Kah-Nie School District’s main goal is to provide a safe environment at all
schools.

If you have any questions about your child’s safety at any Neah-Kah-Nie school, please communicate
with the school principal or with me.

Thank you,

Paul Erlebach, Superintendent
Neah-Kah-Nie School District
